Some more Darksiders 2 stuff

Here is the Frostbone Titan from the Argul's Tomb DLC.  I did the low poly and texture based off of the high poly created by LeRoy Strauss. http://www.leroystrauss.com/  Some of the high poly was also done by Gray Ginther, since this was based on the Jailer monster from Darksiders 1.  You can see the concept for the Frostbone Titan at Avery Coleman's blog.

I also did an angel statue for Darksiders 1 that ended up in Darksiders 2.

Darksiders 2 Art

I'm finally getting around to posting some Darksiders 2 art I did.  This is a boss monster named Frostbane in the first set of DLC called Argul's Tomb.  I'll be posting more soon.

Hippo Skull

Hippopotamus skulls are surprisingly really cool looking.  I found a pic of one on wikipedia and drew it in ink and then painted it with water colors.  I haven't used watercolors in years and I wanted to practice on something, this seemed like a good idea.  If you google image search hippo skull you'll see what I worked off of.

Willy Wonka Monsters

There's a line in the original Willy Wonka movie where he talks about how he saved the Oompa Loompas from a bunch of monsters in their homeland.  Snozzwangers, Hornswogglers, Whangdoodles, and Rotten Vermicious Knids.  I've always thought it would be fun to design what they might look like, and I'm finally getting around to it.  Here's a link to a youtube video with the quote from the movie.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Zhm8QxKmA&feature=fvsr

Figure Sculpting Class "Week 10"

I'm finally done sculpting and I'm starting to render images in 3dsmax.  I'll render some close ups, zbrush renders and maybe a turntable.

Edit... And here are some close up renders and a turn around  HERE.  Now to finish up that monster with the finger teeth :)

Steve Zissou 3d Print

I got a 4 inch 3d print from Shapeways.com of the Steve Zissou bust i did in zbrush.  It came out pretty decent for the price.  Its definitely missing some details and a little coarse.  I think I should have paid a little extra to have it polished.  Its pretty cool to see a virtual item i made turned into something real!

and here is the zbrush sculpt.

Figure Sculpting Class Week 7 and 8

started blocking in my final pose for the class, I haven't touched his hands or feet yet.  I think i'm supposed to work on his hands and crazy hair next.

Monster Wip 2

did some polypainting in zbrush and then painted over in photoshop.

monster wip

here's a WIP of a monster with no jaw that scoops up little creatures with his hands and then uses his hands like a jaw to chew them up.  i might add a tongue hanging down from his mouth, and maybe he has tongues on his hands,  making it up as i go.

Figure Sculpting Week 6

I've gotten pretty far behind in the class.  This week we blocked in a base mesh and then posed it using a zsphere rig.  Its a pretty crazy looking rig, check out his boner bone and butt bones.  It takes some getting used to posing with this kind of setup and it has no IK, but still can be useful.  I think I might try to pose my  killer croc sculpt with a zsphere rig, and there's a monster i'm working on right now that i might try posing too.

Figure Sculpting Week 5

Worked on a straight leg and bent leg this week.  After that, I cut out the knee using slice curve and sculpted it into the bones of the knee.

Figure Sculpting Week 4

Did a Sculpt of my hand this week.  i'll eventually go back and some more details, and maybe zombify it too.

Figure Sculpting Class Week 3

Worked on arms in different positions dealing with twisting of the forearm.  I didn't really spend any time on the hand, because the hand is the focus of next week.

Cicada Soldier

The cicadas have been buzzin in Texas and I've found a couple of their nymph shells in my yard.  I daydreamed about some kind of anthropomorphized cicada flying out of a robotic cicada shell, and this is what I came up with.  It seemed much cooler in my head.  I drew it in pen and ink and scanned it and colored it in photoshop.  I also included a crappy pic of the drawing with the shells I found.

Figure Sculpting Class Week 2

here are some more torso studies dealing with rotating the arms 180 degrees.  We did 5 different poses on different layers.  Learned a bit about layers in zbrush also.  if i did this again the back and arms would be a lot better.  there's also a crappy zbrush animation of it blending through the different layers here. http://www.ericspitler.com/dfs/touchdown.mov

Figure Sculpting Class

I'm taking Scott Eaton's Digital figure sculpting class.  The first week's assignment was to do a male and female torso sculpt based on some photos he took. It's cool to sculpt a posed figure for a change, even if its just a torso.  i generally have sculpt characters standing up straight with their arms at their side.

the female one is here, i don't remember blogger's policy on nudity.  http://www.ericspitler.com/dfs

female likeness sculpt

I'm trying to sculpt a likeness of an actress.  I'm curious if people can tell who this is right now before i spend too much time on details.  I'm planning to make a low poly and texture it too.

nom nom nom

a while ago i sketched the head of a monster that looked shocked and sad, and i wondered why he was so upset.  this is what i came up with.

DOTA 2 Rhino with texture

Here are some pics of the Rhino i sculpted based on the DOTA comic.  It was textured in zbrush using polypaint and photoshop using zapplink.  Did my best to try to capture the style of the paintings by Jim Murray.  Here's a link to the comic   http://www.dota2.com/comics/are_we_heroes_yet/

Dota 2 Rhino

Check out this online comic if you haven't already http://www.dota2.com/comics/are_we_heroes_yet/  It has really amazing artwork by Jim Murray.  i decided to do a quick head sculpt of the rhino in the comic.  i plan to texture it as well.

zbrush hair

had some fun adding hair and textures to my jack model.  these are all straight renders from zbrush.  i just added a background and adjusted levels in photoshop to the textured one.

dookie gremlin

For some reason, people in my neighborhood pick up their dog poop and put it in those little baggies and just leave it on the sidewalk.  i'm trying to understand why they doo that, and my best guess is that they are leaving these poop baggies as offerings to appease the dookie gremlins.

here's a drawing of a dookie gremlin with his baggy of poo.

face puncher

just a random sketch i did in pen and ink with charcoal, and then made a zbrush sculpt.  started from a dynamesh sphere, and the texture is just polypaint rendered in zbrush.  i also rendered a turnaround animation .

Sinus Headache Remedy

Last week I had an annoying sinus headache and fantasized about drilling holes in my head to ease the pressure. Here's a picture i drew of this in pen and ink with charcoal and pencil.
